The nominations for the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced today in Hollywood. The Big Bang Theory and its stars received a total of seven nominations at this year's Emmy awards.

The Big Bang Theory received its fourth consecutive nomination in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. The other nominees this year are Louie (FX), Modern Family (ABC), Orange Is The New Black (Netflix), Silicon Valley (HBO) and Veep (HBO). The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family are the only network comedies in a category now dominated by shows from cable and online distribution.

Jim Parsons was nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for the sixth consecutive time. He won the award in 2010, 2011 and at last year's ceremony. His competitors this year are Derek's Ricky Gervais, Episodes' Matt LeBlanc, House of Lies' Don Cheadle, Louie's Louis C.K. and Shameless star William H. Macy. Jim Parsons was also nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or A Movie for The Normal Heart.

Mayim Bialik received her third consecutive nomination in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category. The other contenders for the award are Modern Family's Julie Bowen, Mom's Allison Janney, Orange Is The New Black's Kate Mulgrew, Saturday Night Live's Kate McKinnon and Veep's Anna Chlumsky.

Comedy veteran Bob Newhart was nominated a second time for his guest role on The Big Bang Theory as Professor Proton. Bob Newhart famously won the first Emmy of his career last year for his appearance on the show. This is the eighth overall Emmy nomination for the legendary stand-up comic and television actor.

The Big Bang Theory crew received three nominations for their work, with nominations for "Outstandign Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control For A Series", "Outstanding Art Direction For A Contemporary Program (Half-Hour Or Less)", and "Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing For A Comedy Series".

The Emmys will be held Monday, August 25 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on NBC.
